In the Republican Volunteer Center, together with BC Hesed Yehuda, the project “Erasing edges and barriers” has been working already for 3 months. It helps people who suffer from acquired dementia, as well as their closest relatives, to cope with this phenomenon. Meetings with demented people, their relatives and patronage workers take place with the professional support of a psychologist. First acquaintance and communication takes place. Then the volunteers work separately with the wards, using various creative methods to improve the motor skills of the hands. This can be modeling of plasticine or creation of applications as well as doing puzzles. The same time, their relatives or guardians talk with a psychologist about how to slow down the manifestation of dementia, how to communicate with dement people, and also discuss their needs.
